Fares
Yes, believe me.
This is yet another blog entry on the blogosphere addressing this:

As many students would have realized this little fact, transportation fees are killing most of us. Or at least, the ones like me, without much income.

This touches the very delicate topic,
"Is this really fair for Poly students?"

Though most of us aren't denying the fact that Poly students still have the chance of buying the bus pass (thank gosh), but ironically, it's at the same price of a Uni student.

Although not all, but a huge portion of the Poly students are still 17 to 19 years old. Yes, there's a few older people who went through a longer way before coming into poly, but the main bulk would be people coming directly from Secondary schools or after one year of ITE/JC.

So, back to this delicate topic of fairness. Is it really fair for students who are 17 years old (like myself, though my birthday is not over yet, which means i'm still 16, legal-wise) to pay adult fare or bus passes which people over 20 years old are also paying?

Of course, $97 per month to some people might be alright (yes, those freakingishly rich people), but for poor souls like me, HELL NO!! If i put aside this amount for 5 months straight, i might already have gotten my iTouch (16GB).

But now? I don't have my iTouch and neither do i have money to buy my concession. Parents no longer provide me transportation fee and everything i want needs to be scrimp and saved. So yes, the delicate balance of fairness comes into my mind at this moment.

I know, a lot of this sound like some kiddish rants but well, you need to be through one to understand one. It might sound childish, but at least it's what i'm facing now.

If people think i'm a damn rich soul, then well, they're wrong. If they think i can afford $100 per month on concession or worse without, then i've nothing more to say. But yes, this is the truth.

But there's always this question weighing on my mind. Why the difference in concession? A difference in Primary and Secondary school, i can understand. Primarily, they're from different age groups and everything.

But JC and Poly students? We're freaking in the same batch. But we're paying almost double of theirs. Logical sounding? I doubt so. Or at least, not in my opinion.

Sometimes, i wonder if this is one method in trying to get all of us into the JC stream. But i guess, none of the big guys would ever try to do that. Imagine if 100% of the cohort goes into JC, OMIGOSH, that could only mean one thing - fatality.

Yes, back to the main topic.

Probably most of the students would quieten down if we can have a reasonable answer as to why our fares are higher (adult/university concession prices) and yes, NOTE: reasonable.

I'm tired of people who just gives me excuses, obviously to patron me, and what's worse? Those excuses weren't even good ones.

I know the society is never fair. But if it could be a little tad more fairer than what it is now, hopefully, actions could be taken, to either lower our fares or to lower our fares.
*winks*
